Well, it’s done, the 2017 season is wrapped up. It was a bitter sweet finish just how things were at Rjs with a broken chain in moto1 with 2 laps to go after charging all the way back from last to 5th and then, a 2nd place finish in the final moto of the year. I was hoping to fight for a podium finish overall in the series but the two fluke DNFs put an end to that. That could have happened to any of the guys so fortunately there were no crashes involved with the two weird bike issues.
To get 5th was good for the new team and having mostly everything put together last minute we can only get better from here as the little tweaks we made through the season made the bike amazing and I felt really comfortable. The Huber Motorsports team was a great fit for myself and Kibby as everyone got along great, we raced hard, were podium threats almost every round and really got the name out there. Thank you to Gerhart and Stu for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to put 100% of my focus into moto.
Moving forward with the new Jetwerx series starting up and the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT Monday. It’s a touch confusing for me as there are still a few question marks. Travel does not get cheaper with more rounds so that’s my first concern. Secondly, the team I currently race for also races snow cross in the winter and with that goes the rigs. I understand that the teams can ask for more money from the sponsors as the exposure grows with the addition of more rounds and disciplines but what if most of them have already been giving the most they could budget for, to begin with at only 10 races? Although I did say that more racing would be better with more breaks because our season is too short and the ability to earn more money is also a plus. It’s going to be a little confusing at first but the idea is great and we need this for the sport to evolve in Canada. Why not add two enduro races to make this 100k win real interesting!
Also what number will I be? I would like to be #3 since I’ve been it 3 times before and maybe have it as a permanent number or 5 since it’s what I’m supposed to be and this will be my 3rd time getting that number too. Maybe bring back my am number 117 but I kinda liked how my 6 looked this year. I like 13 but some people don’t want me to run that so il stick with 3 as my first pic and I already asked Gauldy to reserve it for me because I doubt it would be Colts first choice as a number.
Another concern of mine would be what will happen to Travers, Koster, Darrel, Kinger if the CMRC series does in fact fold. These guys have seen some of us come up for years and been the voices of Canadian moto with a lot of fans and generally liked by all of the riders and teams. Also, what will happen if there still is a CMRC series with new title sponsor? The next few weeks should be interested with press releases, emails, and statements start flooding sorting out where the circus goes.
I know people are going to have fun getting they’re FIM licenses, what a pain in the ass that is from CMA forms to FIM forms, medical forms, faxes, scanned passport photos, its literally taken me 3 weeks to get my stuff sorted for ISDE and that’s generally the same stuff you need for MXON and likely every FIM sanctioned series or event. Having said that I am pretty excited to do these 2 big races. ISDE will be a full on learning experience on racing with tests, working on my own bike and riding 6 hours a day for 6 days. I’m trying to get ready for the race but I don’t really what exactly to practice and I’m too lazy to change my tires for no reason. So I’ll stick to riding moto and trails which I’m heading out to do now.
That’s all I got for this week so until next time, get out there and fill out some forms bro!
