I can’t even fathom what’s going through the minds of the folks in BC that are dealing with the wildfires. Some 37,000 have evacuated and are basically left wondering what’s next for them. Just a few short years back it was Fort Mac dealing with this. Seeing this is so horrible and sad but also makes me realize how fortunate we are in the East or should I say the middle of Canada. These types of natural disasters just don’t happen to us and sometimes that makes me think, why? Any crazy disaster that has happened around the globe and certain places never see anything that is close to that and again, I ask why? I’m sure so many can spin some theory as to why these disasters happen but I’m not one of them. I just wonder why so many normal folk and good people can get such hardship for literally no reason. It just seems so wrong in so many ways. I know for instance Brock Hoyer has had to evacuate Williams Lake. This guy could possibly be one of the nicest dudes ever, his a beautiful family, works hard, is an X Games gold medalist, and one hell of a dancer, yet, this disaster has crushed his reality. Why? That’s just one example and I’m sure there are 36 999 more, but for now, I just wonder, why?
Who doesn’t love something new? New gear, new clothes, new car, new house, new chick, all of these things will forever bring a smile to anyone’s face. MX Bon Conseil was brand new to the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals much like Prince George was. Like anything new, you’re taking a risk and should always be open to some sort of criticism, especially in today’s world. By no means does that make you a failure or even should make you think it’s a dumb idea. Who cares what people think? If you know what’s right and feel you’re doing what’s right then do it. I piss people off all the time with things I write but that doesn’t stop me. The racing this weekend much like in PG was great. Are both a possibility of being one and done? Yes. Does that mean anything? No. But honestly who cares about that, it’s a statement true or not true, but the reality is these races did the series and fans proud and that’s what counts.
It’s extremely unfortunate that the local hero Kaven Benoit took a big digger in moto 2. He was looking good for a podium and turns this downer season around. It’s so crazy this sport of moto how up and down it can go and to Benoit’s credit it’s just been a series of unfortunate events. I never did that great at my home national which was RJ’s back in the day. I mean, I was never as serious or as good as Kaven is so that always played a factor but I could never welcome the pressure of the hometown crowd. I know he can because he has shown it for years on Quebec soil and even inside the biggest race in Canada being the Montreal SX so the pressure is nothing for Benoit. This crash at his track on Sunday was just another shitty circumstance in his 2017 year. I don’t feel there’s any other way to look at it. But almost like my opening statement on the top of this, why do shitty things happen to good people?
The Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals nearly went 6 rounds with no protests or penalties. In fact, it was one lap away from going 6.25 until Josh Osby jumped on a red cross after the finish line in moto one as the white flag came out. He says he never saw it. On the ConX2Share APP, it was plain as day that it was out. Maff copped the gas as well as the lappers Osby jumped through. Now, I’m not saying anything bad about Osby because he was in a battle and maybe he didn’t see it. It’s much easier to see the flag sitting on my couch then it is going 60mph and dogging lappers while trying to fend off competition. My issue with this is that I had to be protested by MX101 (they said this on LIVE TV) before a penalty was laid. On the podium, Osby had to share that he is very upset about the team that protested him. Now, we as fans love drama but I feel this situation could have been handled by the rule book and not a protest. Also, protests are supposed to be anonymous, no? That part could be wrong but I don’t know I feel like some drama was just “forced” to happen. Lastly, how come this was only 5 and last year Davi Milsaps got 10 for his Red Cross Jumping. Also, didn’t the Regina incident also get 10 spots? Without a doubt, Osby went 1-1 on this day and deservingly so, but this “incident” now has added a manufactured dramatic twist to the series: great for the fans, but not the racers or teams.
So this happened today:
