Brought to you by
Wow, it’s 10:am Tuesday and I’m just getting The FLOOD brought to you by Atlas Brace. Some may be upset by this (yes, people actually get mad when this column is late which is cool and crazy in the same voice), some could care less (there’s not many of those, LOL) and some may just wonder, why? Well, I’ll explain in my best “don’t feel bad” for me attitude. I don’t get a summer because of the career choice I have chosen. There is no random weekend getaways, no extra time to visit people, no, “Let’s just go for a drive babe” moments and worst of all, I get to spend very little time helping my boys know their dad and I get no time to help my kids grow. This is all job related and all because of the dedication I have made to try and bring up to the minute news and insight to the fans of Canadian motocross. Even this weekend I sat on my couch Sunday and watch the ConX2Share App, followed LIVE timing, and tweeted as if GuaranteedMX was at Deschambault. I had to work on Sunday to ensure GuaranteedMX looked like it was supporting the nationals because that’s what the site does. I had people in place to do this for me and they bailed last minute so I had to step in. When you’re the owner you have to step up. So I missed a great Sunday with my kids to tweet motocross. Again, the path that I have chosen but I’m really seeing a huge negative in this. Because of this I did nothing yesterday for my job and did everything for my Family that I could in the time I had. I will be doing more of this and you followers will be getting the shaft more often. Just a heads up!
So, the ECAN at Deschambault ran last week and from outside in it looked decent as always but that wasn’t the case. The weather, unfortunately, put a damper on the final two days, some rules taken advantage of because of the language barrier not being understood, and last minute shady “tax” was added before sign in that has many Ontario racers that went to enjoy are now crazy pissed off and as of now will likely not go back. I was so supportive of this event heading into it. I used both GuaranteedMX and AMO pushing our members and followers to this event because I know they do a great job and the only tough situation is the language, but even then they try and we try so t works. Now, we can control the weather and in 2017 it has been a motocross promoter’s nightmare.
Rules of motocross are in place for one reason: to control chaos and cheaters. In Canada, we are definitely starting to steer further away from rules because of this “everybody deserves a chance” type of thinking and the attitude “Everyone’s a winner.” Well, you know what not everyone can win and not everyone deserves a chance. The word “suck” was invited for those that just aren’t good at stuff. Maybe motocross is that “stuff” your son or daughter just isn’t good at. No big deal, there are tons of other sports, activities, or challenges in the world that they can try and maybe not “suck” at. I went off a little there, but Rules are in place to keep us all under the same structure. Those who wish to take advantage or slide by without following guidelines will be caught, so why even try? Did your parents never share the statement “cheaters never prosper?” I’ll say right now we will be sticky on the rules at the Madoc AMO/MMRS national just like TransCan was and like Loretta Lynn’s is. Please, parents, don’t wreck our amazing sport for your kids because you think they “deserve” or “he/she is a winner.”
I’m just blown away at the last minute “tax” that Danny Thibault charged a group of people. According to Danny, it was forced by Mark Stallybrass because originally it says in the Press Release – Note that the CMRC membership card is not required for the GNA Ecan. I also received TXT messages from Danny saying “No Day pass fee or License Fee” so I, of course, kept pushing this on people to help them go to the event. Was this added because the TrasnCan was canceled and Stally needs money and thinks people had extra to spend? Was this just misinformed information? Well, again in a text Danny said: “STALLY MADE HIM DO THIS.” I then asked, “Why did you let this happen?” “What power does he have to tell you how to run your event?” I was just blown away that these guys can treat fellow humans and fellow motocross family members like this? I just ask “why?” Why take the extra $40 per racer that wasn’t a CMRC member to collect an extra 2 grand or whatever it was. Are we so broke that we need to nickel and dime our customers to death so they leave our best events with a bad taste in their mouth. I just don’t get it? Danny Thibault, who is an awesome dude, a guy I would vouch for and have as recently as last week for our 2018 plan, looks like an asshole now because of Mark Stallybrass. I’m just blown away at this situation and I’m sure I’ll get a few tweets, txt’s, or maybe even some calls about this but damn, why jam our customer for a couple bucks? I feel awful about telling our AMO/MMRS customer to go and then they get jammed by this “tax.” Is this partly my fault then? I definitely would have told Senior Stally, “absolutely not” but maybe that’s just me.
For those that have followed twitter the last few days and if you haven’t then maybe it’s not big news. On Aug 14th LIVE at 10:30 AM on the Jetwerx Facebook page there will be a serious announcement concerning the AX, SX, and MX program for 2018. Some of you may say, “Didn’t this already happen back in march?” Well, yes you are correct but that was the soft idea sent out to us all. This PR conference coming up is the ultimate in “game changing” you could ever announce. We’re not allowed to let much out of the bag but the excitement I have right now to be able to help release the news has me all giddy like kid at Christmas. I’m not sure if more is coming this week and I really wish I could share more with you, Oh man, do I wish, but we’ll have to wait till Monday.
The Pro side of the ECAN got rained on heavy for sure. I mean, if this was a hard pack track the race likely would have been canceled so luckily it was at Deschambault where the sand and track crew did their best to make for a race-able course. Once the motos begun it wasn’t the worst Canadian’s have ever seen but did it ever create some amazing drama heading into the final two motos. I’ll begin with the MX2 class where a week ago there was no way Shawn Maffenbeier could lose this title but I guess we should have looked at the way he got the red plate and luck his way was a big part of it with Cole Thompson having a 40 point lead and then injured his thumb and being done for the year. Luck plays a huge role in sport whether bad luck or good luck and Maff have had his share of both in 2017 and the BAD struck again in the MX2 second moto. The dude had a crazy spectacular crash (right beside Dylan Wright who had the same level of a spectacular crash) and was able to get back into the race but it looked like a bike issue DNF’d him. 30 Points to Ryan Surratt just like that. The series is now just 11 points between 1st and 2nd. The even crazy thing about this is the second place rider is not Cole Thompson, Dylan Wright, Jacob Hayes, or Jess Pettis who were all picked to fight or win this title, but rather it’s Ryan Surratt. A racer that has not hit the podium once this season until RD9 where he goes 1-1 and now sits 11 points behind Maff. For crazy ass sakes, this series has been unreal. Before I head into MX1 I have to give a nod to Tanner Ward. WAY TO FRIGEN GO! The kid goes 9 for 9 during the week at ECAN and 2-2 on Sunday in MX2. There has not been a racer that has done something like that in Canada ever (unless you count American Joey Crown doing a similar feet going 8-1 for second in 2015 at Walton) since amateurs have been allowed to race pro. With the way, he’s riding and his fellow hot shots Austin Watling and Marco Canella racing this weekend at RJ’s the MX2 class got even more interesting over and above the championship fight.
In the MX1 class, the weekend was pretty bland until the final 30 seconds of track where Christophe Pourcel zapped him on the last lap much like PG. Matt Goerke, if he had nightmares about the pass way back at Rd2 they likely have passed but now a new set of similar nightmares where the crafty French bugger set up an absolutely beautiful pass on Matt in the bottom bowl section. I was watching on ConX2share and I could see this happening before it did and wanted to subliminally send a message to Matt, “close the door bro.” he was looking crazy pissed after the race and rightfully so but there was nothing he could do. Defense stole from his offense and it cost him another two points. This series is now down to 15 with Goerke leading the way with only one overall this year. Pourcel needs Goerke to have a 4-5 day or worse if he can muster the 1-1 to claim the title. The final two motos of both classes should be pretty solid to finish off the year.
To end this off we are just 16 days away from the AMO/MMRS Madoc National. Oh, how sweet it is!!
